98%FAILED: Unable to reconfigure the destination virtual machine. Win7x64

This topic has been written by automatic translation.

Please forgive me bad English.

I tried to convert the local machine of Windows 7 64 Bit.

However, the conversion does not complete with an error at 98%.

The content of the error is "FAILED: Unable to reconfigure the destination virtual machine."

A vmx file and a vmdk file are created at this point, but a blue screen error (0x7B) occurs when trying to start it.

I also tried unlocking the / 3GB switch according to vmware's KB, but it has no effect.

My Windows 7 is 64 Bit, so this KB will not be helpful.

I will attach an error log here.

i need your help.

Thank you.

Failed at 98% : Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible - Windows Vista

$

Greetings!

Issue:

The conversion stops at 98% showing the message in the title. There is no boot.ini file on the boot drive and trying to reconfigure the VM didn't solve the problem as well.

I tried un-successfully to convert only the active partition (C:) to the VM but the same problem appears.

Extra information:

The computer is an old laptop which has an internal Seagate drive with 3 partitions as it appears in the image attached. C: has the windows installation, D: is a partition for data and the 3rd one I am not sure what it contains; I believe it has some kind of recovery software (?)

OS: Windows Vista 32bit

VMware vCenter Converter: 6.2.0 build-7348398

Task with ID 6 is the conversion with all 3 partitions of the drive (logs can be found at ConverterDiagnostics20171111220416.zip file) and task with ID 8 is the conversion with only one partition - the one that has windows installed (C:) - (logs can be found at ConverterDiagnostics20180113045616.zip file)

Laptop's history:

I'm trying to make a VM of the laptop because it started showing signs that it might die soon - several times of freezing, then not being able to boot. After opening the laptop's case and clearing it a bit, it seems to be working fine - but in any case I'd like to somehow preserve the OS and programs/software that nobody has the installation files for anymore.

Any help would be appreciated!

Fail to convert P2V at 3% with error. Host key can't be retrieved

The physical computer which I am trying to convert to a VM:

CentOS 6.6 running FreePBX 10.66-22

Destination ESXi host running: ESXi 5.5.0 6480324.

The middle man computer which running: VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 6.0.0

All of the 3 computers are on the same network without any firewall restriction.

From the vCenter server managing the ESXi host I can see the VM was created, powered on and booted to the VMware converter helper. However, it stuck at the screen. And it then fail!

From the middle man computer I see the error "A general system error occurred: Network error. Host 1x.2x.x.201 key can't be retrieved."

I already tried the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 6.2.0. But it too ran into the same issue.

The below article advised to use the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 5.1.0. However, this version is no longer available for download.

The more interesting thing is just about 6-7 months ago I was able to convert the same machine onto the same server over the same network!

Could someone please help?

Convert virtual machine hyper-v (Windows 2012R2) to VMware

Hi

I have a problem when trying to use standalone vCenter Converter (6.1.1) to convert virtual machines from HYPER-V (Windows 2012R2) to vSphere 6.5.

When I try to convert a VM from Hyper-V I get an error when the converter tries to retrieve the hardware inventory of the selected VM.

The error is Unable to obrain the hardware inventory for select machine.

And the converter agent installed on the Hyper-v host crashes

Strangely enough, a virtual machine (30 VM on 3 hosts) managed to convert.

The vm to convert are protected by a Hyper-v cluster and are on CSV volumes.

Thank you for help me.

Converting Physical Windows Server 2012 R2 Server to ESXI Virtual Machine

Hey all.

I want to copy my existing physical server that is at my workplace to a new esxi server, now on this physical server we have lots of programs and work related stuff.

My question is will I need to do anything after the copy is complete?

As we speak I'm currently copying the server, so I've already went through the vConverter without any problems.

Will I be able to turn off the physical server and power on the new ESXI Virtual Machine and continue working as always?

Do I have to re-join the work computers to the domain?

What other steps do I have to take to be able to take down the physical server completely and start working on the new virtual machine?

Thank you.

VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Migration Speed

Hi,

Currently I have a V2V migration from Hyper-V to VMware planned. I have tried and tested using VMware vCenter Converter Standalone, but I am getting very low transfer rate for A hyper V VM of following configuration:

1 Virtual CPU
Assigned Memory
4 GB
Assigned Disk
130 GB

I have already tried turning SSL, services and Antivirus off, yet the process does not speed up.

Kindly suggest me some mechanisms using which I can speed up the migration.

Converting an encrypted LUK in Redhat P2V

Is it possible to convert an encrypted LUK file-system with VMWare converter.  I have tried everything from all references online and still get the following:

From the Converter GUI:  Unable to query the live system host (Red Hat)

From the Worker Log I notice the following error:  "No disks for volume with id dev/blah/blah and label ' '   "

Any insight would be helpful as I am stuck at a dead end.

Unable to convert XP to a VM.

$

I've got ESXi running on a server, so I'm trying to clean up some rack space.  I have an old XP installation that I have to keep around for an old application we still support.  So I need to get this running XP installation converted to a VM so the program can still be enhanced and compiled, etc.

But, I can never get past 1%.  I keep running into:

FAILED: Unable to create a VSS snapshot of the source volume(s). Error code:  2147754776 (0x80042318).

Now, I HAVE determined that in the event viewer I do see issues with the VSS system:

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: An internal inconsistency was detected in trying to contact shadow copy service writers.  Please check to see that the Event Service and Volume Shadow Copy Service are operating properly.

And, I also see some COM+ errors as well:

The COM+ Event System failed to fire the RequestWriterInfo method on subscription {F865A9A1-1E43-4688-8742-18E82CAFAFE6}-{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}-{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}.  The subscriber returned HRESULT C0000005.

But, it seems that all of the links to Microsoft on how to fix this are now defunct.  I've found a number of things including some registry edits, stop some services and re-registering a bunch of dlls, and more... but nothing has worked.  And I can't do too much to this system, because it is a living environment with all of the right drivers and configurations to build the product.

So... looking for anyone who has had the same issue.  Or, is there another process that can be used to get this physical installation into a VM?  I've spent the last few days trying just about everything I can think of to make this work and keep ending up back in the same spot.

Anyone got some words of help and/or wisdom?

Rich

P.S. - Attached are the diagnostics from the most recent run, if anyone wants to peruse them.  Also, running the latest Converter Standalone 6.2.0 build-7348398

Actions

  • Rerun job a couple more times - failed
  • Convert only C:\ - failed
  • Run Check disk /R on C:\ - failed

Points to consider.

  • Next step would be to install converter locally but i want to avoid this for now.
  • No workarounds to be deployed, i.e. use acronis - must be able to proceed with converter alone
  • Normally a checkdisk resolves this issue for me.

Question: What other things can cause the following errorBlockLevelVolumeCloneMgr::CloneVolume: Detected a write error during the cloning of volume \WindowsBitmapDriverVolumeId=[93-DD-5B-0B-00-00-10-00-00-00-00-00]. Error: 37409 (type: 1, code:2338)'

P2V converter.fault.DiskLockFault

I'm attempting to convert a physical machine for Workstation 14 Pro with standalone converter 6.2.

It's failing after about 2 minutes with "FAILED: Unable to obtain the lock on virtual disks".  The log file shows "Unexpected Exception: converter.fault.DiskLockFault".

The destination folder is empty.

I can manually copy files to the destination folder from the source machine.

The source machine is Windows 7 Ultimate.

The destination machine is Windows 10 Pro.

The destination folder is on a local drive, and it is specified as \\local-machine\local-folder.

In permissions for the folder and sharing, I have given full access to:

Everyone, NETWORK SERVICE, __VMware_Conv_SA__, __vmware__, Administrator, and Administrators.

Please help!

Thanks in advance,

Frank
