VMware-converter-all-4.3.0-292238.exe

I found on different places in the internet this version of Vmware converter 4.3.0, which i need to do a P2V conversion of a very old RedHat box.

I also found those

MD5: 222485c4eb94767378d76237245349cf

SHA1: 173e03fa689155ead54cad7f0c7acc5e363670ed

How can I be sure both file and hashes haven't been tampered with?

VmWare graciously removed from their site a tool I need to process that box.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Converter is identifying the wrong source disks

I'm trying to move a VM from a free ESXi 5.0.0 host to a regular ESXi/vCenter 6.5.0 host.

In Converter, when I get to the Options page and check the "Data to copy" section, I'm seeing 4 virtual disks when I am only expecting 1.

What's suspicious is that the VM to be moved was cloned (using the command line approach) a long time ago from another VM that had 4 disks with exactly the same sizes that Converter is identifying.  After this long-ago clone operation, I deleted 3 of the disks.  The deleted VMDKs are long gone and don't show up in vSphere Client nor in the VM's VMX and VMXF files so I'm not sure where Converter is getting this info from.  My fear is that some config somewhere is pointing at the VMDKs for the source of the long-ago clone operation.

Any idea what's going on?

It's been a while since I had to P2V convert a Linux system and do not see an option to Synchronize changes.

Is this available for Linux (Red Hat) ?

If not what are alternatives for synchronization

Vcenter converter error "Host key can't be retrieved."

Hello friends, how are you?

I'm trying to convert a physical machine with Redhat 3 have the latest version of VMware vCenter Converter (5.5.3)

On the machine with Redhat I have the firewall disabled, the IP as the name resolves well and are within the same network as the host.

At one point, after partition and format the disk on the target server, I get the following error in the log:

FAILED: On a general system error occurred:

Network error. Host 192.168.0.142 key can not be retrieved. (return code 2)

Can someone help me?

Thanks a lot!

E1000 NIC will not regain network connectivity when powered on

V2V conversion using vCenter Standalone latest version: NIC will not regain network connectivity when powered on. The machine seems to be intact upon conversion but connectivity fails. We initially removed the NIC as it was E1000 but this is licensed pbx software, and my next step is to convert again and leave the E1000 NIC intact, except for setting the mac address for licensing reasons. 2 other machines were converted P2V and they have multiple NICs apiece. These machines took 4+ hours to convert. I haven't found any references of an issue such as this.

1. Added NIC as vmxnet3 with IPs- no connectivity

2. Re-added as E1000 with IPs - no connectivity

3. Destination is a ESXi on a Nutanix cluster. Multiple other VMs are working on this cluster and it is in production.

4. NICs are on the same network and port group as source, as they should be.

5. Destination is ESXi 5.5 using vCenter 6. Source is supposedly ESXi 5.5.

This is my first conversion but it seemed to be straightforward until this issue occurred. Has anyone run into this?

1. Should I reconvert and leave the NIC as is, albeit changing the mac?

2. Should I remove the NICs before conversion and re-add afterwards?

3. For the P2V machines (these are all Windows 2008R2 machines), should I remove the NICs before conversion? These are 500Gb sized conversions (physical disk size was 2TiB). As this are DBs, I'll have to perform these conversions again.

4. Another option would seem to be exporting the V2V as OVF though customer is reticent to do this.

Can someone provide a download to converter 3.03 please?  I need to convert a XP machine to VM and VMWare's site only has version 6 available to download and it doesn't support XP.  I am unable to upgrade this pc from XP as it is running software at a mining plant that won't run higher than XP.

How to P2V multiple 2003 Servers to 6.5

We have a Client with 10+ 2003 physical Servers that we need to convert to VMs in ESXi 6.5.

I've done some searching, and found that Server 2003 is no longer supported, and that Converter 6.0 was the last to support it.

What is the best way to P2V the 2003 Servers and get them into 6.5?

Do we use Converter 6.0 to P2V to ESXi 6.0 and then migrate to 6.5?  Or will Converter 6.0 work directly with ESXi 6.5?

What Hardware version should we choose?

Any other tips for P2V on 2003?

Thanks!

Hi,

I want to migrate VMs from vCenter 5.5.0 U1b to vCenter 6.5 U1b using Converter Standalone 6.2.

When Converter tries to connect the source vCenter (5.5) I receive this error:

"A general system error occurred: SSL Exception: error:14077102:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_SERVER_HELLO:unsupported protocol"

The error seems to be related to the certificate.

Could you help me?

Thanks

Remote P2V fails with 'The destination does not support EFI firmware.'

Good day,

I am attempting to P2V a computer that has GPT disks in a windows 10 environment.  I have successfully P2V other Windows 10 machines into this esxi 5.5 environment although they may not have been GPT disks

I have checked that the EVC mode was disabled, as this appeared to be an issue with others.  This is disabled in my environment and I can select Virtual Machine versions 8, 9 & 10.

Each of them return the same error, so does each host and datastore.

VMware vCenter Converter Standalone version: 6.2.0 Build-7348398

I would greatly appreciate any assistance to get this working properly.

Thank you

Best way to shrink a VMDK file (D Drive) of a VM ?

$

Hi,

We are running ESXi 6 Update 3.

There is a VM running Windows 2012R2 that consists of 2 HDD (2 Separate VMDK files).

We would like to shrink the D Drive (i.e. The second VMDK file) from 500GB to 100GB.

We would like to know what is the best way to shrink it ?  Would it be a V2V of that VM OR can we just V2V for a particular VMDK file ?

Thanks

"Cannot start service" error when installing Standalone Converter

[Note: I discovered question is probably more appropriate to  Home> VMTN> VMware vCenter™> Converter Standalone. forum, but unable to figure out to move it so created a duplicate post in that forum.]

I am a first time user. Please let me know if this would be better posted elsewhere. Thank you.

I attempted to install VMware vCenter Standalone Client ver. 6.2 on my Dell 8700 PC running Windows 8.1.  I selected to do a local install only. The install failed with an error something like "The service could not be started."

I tried to remove installation, reboot, and install again. Same problem.

It seemed to finish installing so I am able to start the application. But I get the following error message:

I go to the services control panel and the server service is not running

When I try to manually start it, I get the following error:

When I look at the dependencies, there are none:

Converter failing with: The operation experienced a network error

$

I can't believe there is any kind of network issue because all of my VM's are working and on the network.

I am running version 6.1.1 and have tried three different ESXi servers. Two are 5.5 and one is 6.0 servers and they all fail. I have also tried this on another PC that fails.

I have also tried different VM's to import. I took one of the VM's and converted it on my PC from one drive to another drive and that works telling me the VM isn't the issue.

I found one article on the web from VMware Converter: "The operation experienced a network error" - discussing the network error issue but said it was something else that he got around.

The other strange thing it does, the progress bar gets to 50% and then speeds up to 98% and then goes back to 6% where it fails.

I have attached the log files from one of the tests.

Thanks

Windows Conversion Fails on v6 but works on v5

I have been working on this for a while trying to figure out why any Windows system would fail being converted to an ESXi server. I tried different PC's, different ESXi servers with different versions of ESXi and they all failed. The one thing I didn't change was using an older version of the converter. I was using version 6.1.1 on all of the different PC's.

Today I uninstalled version 6 and installed version 5.5.3 of the converter and it works.

Version 6 would convert a Linux server without an issue it was just any type of Windows system. The converter would get up to 98% and then the bar would go back to 3% to 6% and fail. The logs showed a network error which I know wasn't correct because I could convert a Linux server.

I am attaching the logs from the failed v6 and the working v6. Maybe someone can see something I am missing.

Converter issues with ESXi 6.5 - exporting fails, converter fails

$

Community, be greeted.

A short backstory. I recently converter 120+ VM's from ESXi 4.1 (running clustered with vCenter) to ESXi 6.5 standalone host (standard license).

These conversions were made with vmware converter and all went by with flying colors. Now the issue is that now I'm totally unable to convert anything from the new 6.5 host. This is a must-need-feature as our users constantly move these VM's from the host to their player/workstation infrastructure.

1) First error is with the converter. Some VM's convert okay but most of them give the "Not enough permissions" at 98%

2) Second error is with the export function in ESXi 6.5 (okay, a bit off-topic). Export goes pretty far but eventually gives network/time-out error.

3) Third error is with the newest converter 6.2. This version gives me the "cannot lock disks" error straight up. It doesn't matter, whether I'm using a NFS share or trying to convert to my local disk.

So far, it might have something to do with the ctb being enabled. Permissions should be okay as I'm having the issues with full root permissions.

Any clues to any of the issues mentioned above? All help is highly appreciated. Currently the only option for moving the VM's is through sftp and it doesn't sound like a plan for tomorrow

Cheers,

Pekka

Hello,

Several years back I successfully converted a physical machine to a virtual with VMware's converter standalone tool. That was several versions back obviously. Now, I am trying to do the same thing and failing. I have been looking to see why it is happening.

FAILED: Unable to obtain the lock on virtual disks.

This is the error I am getting above.

Any advice is welcome. Verion of converter is 6.2.0 build-7348398

Thanks,

Nick
