i'm trying to move Physical Serer (Ubuntu) to VM. when I tried connecting to Physical Server by my account (in sudo group). but i got a warning"Unable to query the live Linux source machine. Make sure that you can run sudo without entering a password when logged in to the source machine over SSH as 'my account'."

Hi I am trying to convert physical Windows2008 SP2 server to ESXi host 6.5, using vmware converter 5.5.3

Getting this error.

An error occurred while opening a virtual disk. Verify that the converter server and the running source machines have a network access to the source and destination ESX/ESXi hosts

I have checked Windows Server DNS resolution, it is able to resolve target ESXi 6.5

I also tried modified the host file, still same error.

Please help.

Tried two different users and two different browsers each.

I have succesfully P2V'd 100's of machine but I'm having 2 now that are causing issues.

Steps:

Start converter wizard -> success

log into source/physical linux box -> success

log into vcenter -> success

pick options -> success

start process -> success

Helper vm gets built -> success

I can log into helper vm and...then it gets weird.

For some unknown reason yet to be explained, it takes 10 seconds for the helper VM to make a successful ssh connection to the source/physical machine.

TCPDump on the source/physical machine shows an instant entry once i hit enter on "ssh source", but there is an unexplained delay on getting the fingerprint, and subsequent password/auth.

However, by then the wizard has given up and starts to cancel the process and i lose my helper vm.

Is there anyway to delay or extend the time it takes for the ssh from helper->physical machine so that the converter job doesn't get canceled?

I suspect if I can delayed the cancellation, that the ssh process will still be slow, but eventually it will go through.

I am trying to download the Standalone converter but it won't let me!  I've registered and signed in and in the 'Download Packages' section i am just getting 2 version history boxes and no download option.

Am i having a moment here?  Or am i missing something?

Hi, we tried to do p2v migration with vmware converter 6.1.1 for physical Ubuntu 12.04 server, but it is failing at 95% with below errors, we did couple of other p2v migration and that went well. This on got stuck at below errors. Bottom left window showing.. Error: Unable to clone the volume mounted on '/' from 'ip_address_of_source_server';

Looks like it is something related with tar conversion,  not sure though.

OS: Windows 10 Pro, 64Bit, Fall Creators Update, December patch installed

Tried to convert the powered machine into a vm. I used as destination system my Unix based NAS mapped to Windows. The converter wasn't able to lock the destination and started to loop.

I cancelled the process in order to use a USB drive as destination.

When I restarted the converter, I got the the error message "Permission to perform this operation was denied." both using the "Next>" button as well as pressing "View source datails..." on the Source System step of the wizard.

I rebooted the system, I uninstalled and reinstalled the converter - nothing changed. I assume the converter didn't remove a lock entry.

I'm frustrated, each support would be appreciated.

Hi.  I'm using the latest version of standalone converter 6.1.1 and it's failing when I convert a powered off VM from one ESXi host to another.  Both hosts are ESXi 6.5.

It gives a conversion status of:  FAILED: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible.

Also, in the log highlights it has:  Error: An error occurred during reconfiguration.

Attached are the converter logs.

Can anyone advise?

Hopefully just a quick question but can I use a newer version of the converter to convert a server to a ESXI 5.5.3 server? Server is 2008R2 and if I try an download the 5.5 converter it brings me to a page that I can only download 6.0 or newer. Thanks in advance

     I have tried to convert a power on physical machine to a workstation vm and it always failed at 3%-5%. The converter showed the same error message "BlockLevelVolumeCloneMgr::CloneVolume: Detected a write error during the cloning of volume Disk#0_Partition#1." every time. I have made a disk check using HD Tune which showed no bad blocks.

     Source OS: windows server 2008

     Converter version: 6.0.0 build-2716716

     ESXi: 6.0

     Do I need to try a file level clone?  Would be grateful if anyone can give me some advice.

I have been searching for info on my problem and can't seem to find anything.

I have a XenServer Pool, Version 6.5. I am using the VMWare Standalone Converter to attempt to migrate VMs over to ESXi 6.0. The linux VMs I did worked great, no issues.

The same can't be said for Windows Server 2012. The VMs migrate over but when they boot I am stuck on a couple of issues that I just can't get past:

- Constant restarts and BlueScreens trying to boot. Tried Windows repair with no luck. Sometime I can get into Safe Mode without any problems but it will not boot up into regular Windows.

- A BSOD caused by xen.sys that I was able to work around that then turned into no bootable drive.

I have tried combination of uninstalling the Xen Tools, not uninstalling, installing the VmWare tool, not installing, tried exporting OVF/OVA files from Xen, etc. Nothing seems to work. When I try to look back and remember what I did and didn't do my head starts hurting.

Getting to the point where I am almost ready give up and build the VMs from scratch in ESXi. It may take a week of 14 hours days but at least I can move on to other headaches.

Any help, links, guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Standalone Converter 4 kann SUSE SE8, aber nicht ESXi 6 - Standalone Converter 6 kann ESXi 6 aber nicht SUSE SE8.
Gibt es eine Möglichkeit diese alte Maschine in ESXi 6 zu virtualisieren?
Leider muss ich bei SUSE SE8 bleiben, denn auf der Maschine läuft Software, die auf neueren Versionen nicht mehr läuft, weil sie nicht weiter entwickelt wird.

I just used the VMWare standalone converter to migrate a Lubuntu 16.10 VM to my ESXi 6.5 host. The migration seemed to go well, but for some reason I'm unable to access a web application on the new VM from any other machine on the LAN. The VM has a single app running - homeassistant (home automation server). It has an SSL web console which runs on port 8123, and which I previously accessed using this URL:

I'm trying to p2v  Oracle Linux 6.8 and it fails at 3%  with A General system error occurred: Network Error Host 10.252.164.133 key can't be retrieved error -2.   Although during Network Helper ISO boot it can ping the gateway and then just sits there at the login and password prompt and then eventually fails at 3%.  I've tried using hardware version 11,9,7 in VMware Converter 6.2.  I've tried the setting changes in the VMware converter
