General System Error – internal error occurred

tried various things but no luck, have attached log, i have access to the
vspehre centre form my machine, I have the file on my local machine and stand
alone converter – I can start the vm in VMware workstation

VM was downloaded on to my local machine from another esx host, started and
run in workstation locally and now I want to put it in to our vsphere cluster

I am using my elevated account to connect to vsphere from standalone –

Checked hardware comatability level in workstation and cloned the vm to make
sure it was at 5.0.0 level

Left the disk alone (I was going to resixe them) and still fails

Log attached – some errors about SSL dangle but unclear what the cause is

The domain and user name have been replaced in the log with just
domain/first.last

I can connect to vsphere using both a standard account
first.last name and an elevated account a-first.last

Thanks in advance for any insight

VMWare Converter Standalone v4.3.0 - Error 29163

$

I've recently moved over to VMWare Player and used VMWare Converter Standalone v4.3.0 to convert my old VMs. Once all the VMs were converted I uninstalled VMWare Converter Standalone from the host..

I now find I need to convert one additional VM, but when I attempt to reinstall VMWare Converter Standalone I get the following error:

Error 29163. Could not copy file C:\DOCUME~1\<User>\LOCALS~1\Temp\converter-agent.xml

Where <User> represents my userid.

Things I've checked include:

  • I'm an admin on the host
  • I've rebooted the host (Windows XP SP3)
  • There's plenty of disk space
  • I've cleared out the folder including hiden files
  • Searched VMWare forums and the internet for anything similar

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

Converting Windows 7, is returning this error. Any guidance.

I've got a machine that I've been tasked to virtualize, but I never get any farther than 1%, which is wierd because a collegue of mine P2Ved this server a couple months ago and it went through. (we had to delete that VM because it wasn't brought online in time.)

The conversion doesn't fail, it just stays at 1%.

Server is a Windows Server 2003 R2 box and it's main role is Raisers Edge. I turned off all the SQL services per another post. I'm not quite sure what else to include, other than the logs.

Thanks.

Conversion Hangs at random percentages

I'm converting VM's from xenserver to vsphere 5.1 and multple VM's will hang at random percentages, they never fail.  I have converted several VM's just fine but have been running into some that never finish.  The firewall and UAC are turned off.  I have tried using the converter locally on the server and remotely but still have the same affect.  I am also using the 5.1 converter.

converter standalone problem with Acronis True Image Home 2013

I installed vmware vcenter converter standalone client/server Version 5.1.0 build -1087880 on my pc which also has vmware player installed.  I have true image home 2013 installed as well and have a tib file I would like to use as a virtual image.  I select local machine on the converter, select source type "Backup image or third-party virtual machine" and Virtual Machine File: and browse to the local file which is a .tib.  If I select next or "View source details..." it gives me the error "The source parameters are invalid."

I noticed that the documentation says the converter works with acronis true image 10 and 11.  Is that the reason I get the error or is this error caused by something else?

Thank you for your help in advance.

Problems virtualizing Windows 8 OEM using VMware Converter 5.1 and Player 5.02

$

G'day,

I recently purchased a Dell XPS8700 workstation which came with Windows 8 installed.

I want to install Ubuntu (not dual-boot) on it but before doing so I wanted to virtualize Windows 8.

So, I downloaded VMware Converter 5.1 Standalone, and used it to create a VM of Windows 8. So far so good.

I then tried to run this VM in VMware Player 5.02 (both the Windows and Ubuntu versions). Player recognises the VM correctly but when I try to power it on I see a black screen for a few seconds and then it exits. There are no error messages produced in the logs that indicate what the problem is.

Has anyone had success virtualizing Windows 8 for use with VMware Player?

Thanks,

Chris.

Hello:

I am converting physical machines to VM sot hat we can consolidate our environment. The converter V5.1.0 Build1087880 fails at 71%, with a Warning:

so far, I have good progress on other physical machines except for this stubborn XP -X64 machine. We need to keep it for legacy reasons until there are replacement apps for all sw running on it (; This machine has SSD drive and no spinning HD

each time the conversion is able to start and complete the first on two drives. The GUI states its fine , but the log shows

I have run several apps to check and fix the D drive, but none find any issues. the XP-X64 machine has been restated after each test and re run. no issues are found on either drive

I have tried to run the converter without  the D drive. It wont let me do so as it states that the D drive Is critical to the conversion and wont proceed without it

I have attached GUI screen shots and two logs files

Can anyone please help?

Is there is a way to find the root problem or proceed?

if windows cant find an issue with  the D Drive why does the converter?

Unable to select VMware Infrastructure Server

Hi,

I'm trying to convert a Ubuntu 12.04 VM to a VMware Workstation VM using the Standalone Converter on the same Windows 7 64bit machine. The

Source type for the VM is a 'Powered On Machine' with a OS Family of 'Linux'. I have worked out all the permission issues in the Ubuntu VM, so the

converter connects to the VM and brings me to the Wizards selection of the Destination System(see below.) The Pull-Down selection for destination

'Server' has no entries. What have I missed here?

Thanks,

     John C.

Hi guys,

I had an issue with a P2V process. I tried to virtualize a physical server running Windows Server 2008 R2 with Converter Standalone 5.1 to a vSphere Infrastructure - on a ESXi 5 host. The message is FAILED: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible at 98%. Below you can find some outputs from the conversion logs:

2013-08-14T05:03:25.310+03:00 [05032 error 'Default'] [task,350] [LRO] Unexpected Exception: converter.fault.ReconfigurationNoSystemVolumeFault

-->    dynamicType = <unset>,

-->    faultCause = (vmodl.MethodFault) null,

-->    description = "InternalError",

-->    msg = "",

--> }

After the conversion I did notice something interesting about the server. It only has a C: drive, which I selected in the conversion options, but it also has a folder from C: mounted as a separate partition, F:. Could this be the cause of the error?

Increasing the cloning performance

$

There have been many complaints about transfer rate degradation in Converter 5.0.

Converter uses NFC (a proprietary VMware protocol) for cloning to managed destination. Security has been enhanced in Converter 5.0 by encrypting the data transfer. Unfortunately this has caused a more severe performance degradation than expected.
Switching off SSL encryption is a way to work around this issue. Here is how it is done:

  1. Open the converter-worker.xml configuration file. It is located in "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone" folder for Windows Vista or newer or in "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\VMware\VMware vCenter Converter Standalone" for older Windows versions.
  2. Set the key Config/nfc/useSsl to false and save the configuration file.
  3. Restart "VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Worker" service.

I.e. it should look like:

    ...    <nfc>       <readTimeoutMs>120000</readTimeoutMs>       <useSsl>false</useSsl>    ...

Converter win2000, can't connect

Hi All,

I may have this wrong but I have been told I can use Converter for the following issue.

I have two old desktop PCs dating back to 2000 and 2004. Both are running win2000pro and they were business PCs. I keep them because there is data that I occasionally need to refer back to. I would like to make images of them and install them in the VMWare Player if that is indeed what Converter will allow me to do. Then I can clear the old machine HDDs and donate the boxes to the local Seniors Center.

Current Host PC is win7pro and the process is...

Booted a win2000 box, logged in and got it's Dynamic IP address.

Win7 can see and access the w2000 Folders and file, as can TightVNC (just to make sure it was available).

I started Converter (v5.1) and logged into Local.

Clicked "Convert Machine".

Selected "Powered on Machine," only option.

Entered IP, Login and Password for Windows family.

Accepted the "install files..."

Error Message "The operation could not be completed for 192.168.0.6\ADMIN$ for incorrect User credentials."

It upper-cased the Admin and added the $ to the end. Is that the problem or something else?

Thanks

Harry

VHD file to VMDK

I have been told that I can not use vCenter Converter or the Standalone Converter to convert a VHD file to vmdk.  file to use to create a VM on vCenter ESXi host.  Is that correct?   I thought that this was possible or is it only possible directly from a running hyper-V virtual machine?

Network Error - fails between 1 and 5%

Hello all,

I am trying to migrate VMs from standalone VSphere ESXi 5.0.0 servers (Build 469512) to our production vCenter Cluster 5.1.0 (Build 947673).

The VMs to be migrated are a range of Debian Squeeze, Ubuntu and dedicated Linux appliances, none of them use LVM.

I'm running the converter on Windows 7 64bit with an i5-2500, 8GB of RAM, latest BIOS, chipset and relevant drivers.

I've been able to convert several of the machines with no issues. My computer will no longer convert machines, however my colleagues with the same configuration will.

I have built a straight forward Debian Squeeze VM on one of the standalone ESXi hosts, I cannot convert it, however my colleague can (using my credentials).

I have uninstalled, restarted and re-installed the converter.

Looking through the logs, the issue is the creation of the disk on the attached storage. I also see API errors where the Converter is calling the API on my machine.

If it was errorCode 3 for the highlighted section below, that would be cannot create file. I cannot find a listing of the error codes to find out what 2 is.

I have attached the server, gui and worker logs.

From the worker log:
