I know the release notes do not list XP Pro SP3 on the supported source O/S list, but will it work? If not, does anyone know a work around for it? I'm on Windows 10 and need to import a Windows XP Pro SP3 physical machine.
Thank you!

I'm trying to convert a running linux vm to a vmware workstation vm.
I found out that i need a ESX Host. I installed a ESX Server.
While trying to connect to the ESX Host (from the VMware Converter) at the Step Target System (VMware Infrastructure-Server) I get an "SSL Exception: Unexpected EOF" error.
I tried already disableing SSL for the converter worker process.
Is there another way to convert a running linux vm to a vmware workstation vm?
If not, how can i fix the SSL error?
Regards
Christof
hi friends
with a working machine (Windows 10 ) , convertire server (CentOS 6.8) ,the esxi host 5.5
get the error at the beginning of "A file I/O error occurred while accessing ".
I am P2Ving some HP machines and have read the posts here on how to remove most of the HP components but I am stuck on how to get rid of the HP network Configuration Utility program which puts the HP Network icon in the system tray. There is a post from Guillermo Musumeci back in 2007 that said using this command:
snetcfg.exe -v -u cq_cpqteam
should do it but I can't find snetcfg.exe on this server.
There is also a post from Jasemccarty in 2007 that said this keymay be the key you have to remove:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network\
{4D36E975-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\{FD0FF0D6-4876-4894-9274-258564E35C07}
But that key doesn't appear to be in the registry on this server. Anyone have any ideas on how to remove this last bit of HP centric software from a P2V'd VM?
Anyone know why HP makes it so blasted difficult to remove their drivers and other components?
thanks,
Dan
Hi
I have attempted to convert a Windows SBS 2008 SP2 machine, but it failed around 96% with the following error. Logs attached (ConverterDiagnostics_Convert.zip)
Here is a summary of that conversion task.
I then read some suggestions online to try and just re-do the reconfiguration process again, and that failed as well with a similar error. Logs attached (ConverterDiagnostics_Configure.zip)
The destination location for the VM image is a 2TB USB HDD and the server is only 1.4TB in size.
Can anyone assist with trying to narrow down the issue for me. I tried to check the logs, but there are many errors around the time of the failure, so not sure what is the root cause.
Thanks
Is there any Guidelines in converting XenServer 7.0 VMs to EXS 6.0 with vCenter Converter Standalone.
I have done this in the past from Xen-Org to EXS successfully. Though the conversion itself succeeded, but I cannot start the Machine in EXS. It goes each time to repair.
Any help?
Hi,
I'm trying to P2V a RHEL 4 server but I'm failing with the following error:
The whole conversion looks like it nearly finishes but then fails with this errors.
The last few entries in the task list (highlights) is this:
- Error: Unable to reconfigure the destination virtual machine.
- Creating initial ramdisk (initrd).
- Patching the mount point entries in fstab.
- Installing the GRUB boot loader.
- Starting the reconfiguration of the destination virtual machine.
Has anyone here experienced a similar error previously or can point me in the right direction to try and get this resolved. I have a very long list of other RHEL 4 servers that will need to be P2V'd as well so I'd like to get this issue fixed quickly if I am going to have to deal with it everytime I try to P2V a Linux machine.
Thanks for the help!

Hanré
If we use the converter program to convert a physical server (Windows 2008 R2) into a VM, what software do we run on the Windows 7 desktops to open the VM? We are converting for purposes of an historical snapshot of the server prior to it being decommissioned. Do we but converter or is it free? Thanks!
I am running Converter on Windows 7 ans trying to make a virtual machine of the current installation to upgrade to Windows 10.
Whenever I start to use the converter I get this error message "Unable to complete Converter agent installation on Dell-9020. Another version of this product is already installed.
I have looked around the machine and the only one I can find is the current installation.
Anyone any ideas. Thanks
Vcenter Converter明明是免费的,为什么每次要去下载的时候都需要注册产品,注册完后还提示不接受这次下载的请求。
Hi!
Failed converting Windows 2003 Standard R2 SP2 64bit to virtual machine. Problem may be related to failed RAID5 array which btw cannot be rebuilt for unknown reason. So I guess it's possible to convert machine because 1 hdd failed in RAID5, array is still functional and system works, though with some errors in filesystem. RAID controler is fakeraid Promise TX4310.
Previosly in log I had these errors:
Warning: Unable to read the block at offset '774,598,656' on volume 'C:'.
Warning: Unable to update boot.ini on the destination machine's system volume.
Warning: Unable to update drive letters for the destination volume layout.
FAILED: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible. (at 98% of conversion)
When I boot virtual machine (converted with errors), I get message that NTLDR is compressed, and from Windows Recovery Console I cannot access c: or d: drives.
I will attach error log here, please can someone read it and help, situation is pretty urgent. Thanks!
system I am running the converter on had a version 5.1 converter which I removed this morning and installed the latest version 6.1.1 - 1st system I am trying to convert to virtual gives me an error. system is running windows 2008 r2? any thoughts on how to resolve this?
We have a set of images sent to us by a customer. Not sure of the software used to create the images.
The images were taken from various physical servers with various operating systems (Linux, Solaris, Windows).
We used StarWinds free converter to convert the images to vmdk files.
Using VMware Workstation, we are able to create a VM and add the converted vmdk as the system disk.
We then used VMware converter to covert the VMs and move them over to ESXi Server 6.0.
We are able to boot a majority of the Linux VMs (RHEL 6).
However, Solaris boots up and goes into a boot loop...
Is there a mod required to stop the looping?
Thanks

so recently when trying to some P2V conversions, i have been getting errors, including the following:
FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: '/usr/lib/vmware-converter/copyFileSystem.sh: line 125: 1979 Done echo 'password' 1980 | /usr/lib/vmware-converter/bin/ssh -z -F /usr/lib/vmware-converter/ssh.conf root@10.12.8.123-p 22 " tar --one-file-system --sparse -C '/' -cf - ." 1981 Killed | /bin/tar_1.28 --numeric-owner --delay-directory-restore -C '/mnt/p2v-src-root/' -y -xf - /usr/lib/vmware-converter/bin/ssh -z -F /usr/lib/vmware-converter/ssh.confroot@10.12.8.123 -p 22 " tar --one-file-system --sparse -C '/' -cf - ." | /bin/tar_1.28 --numeric-owner --delay-directory-restore -C '/mnt/p2v-src-root/' -y -xf - (return code 137)'
Around a month ago, P2V was working fine. The only change since then would be that all the esxi hosts and the vcsa were upgraded. we are on VCSA 6.0.0.2000 build 3617395 ESXI build 6.0.0, 4192238 According to the task summary of the standalone converter, it clones the /boot and /var and completes, but slows to a crawl (percentage-wise) while cloning the / partition, and eventually, after 1.5-2.5 hours fails with the above message. Previously a similar sized VM would take about 7-15 minutes to finish successfully.
EDIT: The server that gave the above error is running rhel/centos 5 although i also have failures with rhel/centos 6
Since a few day i'm trying to convert a phisic machine(vmw connverter 6 version) with OS windows 7 that has a software with license. The thing is that every time that conversion end and i try to run the virtual machine works ok, but ask me the license software! In the process conversion the setup is correct and i follow the best practice.Any idea about this?thas issue happens to me with different software.
Sorry for my bad english
I went on P2V process these days, the working environment was Linux(CentOS 6.7), and the P2V process had proceeded online after all the service went off.
After P2V process, due to the Kernel Panic, I rebooted the system by ramdisk rebuild using mkinitrd.
But after booting the virtual machine successfully, apache configuration duplicates had added so the service didn’t come up.
So I deleted the duplicates, and the service operated normally.
I checked the physical server that there is only one configuration file, and the duplicates of the configuration file was generated in virtual machine.
Can the P2V process make the files that doesn’t exist before or change the settings inside?
I will wait for your reply.
Thank you.
I'm trying to setup a physical to virtual conversion using VMware vCenter Standalone Converter. I have a online debian server I'm trying to convert to a virtual on an ESXI 6.0 host. Go through the setup just fine, but every time I get to 3%, I get the discussion topic's error.
Was hoping to find some help with this as Im not familiar with Linux as an admin. My company took on this project to migrate away from another company's Linux server and, while I've accomplished that, I'd like to keep a virtualized clone of the machine in the event that I need some data or some such off of it in the future (as even the client does not seem to realize what it was utilized for). I've attached my logs. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi all,
I have Virtual machines in Hyper-V Server and I was planning to move the Virtual machine to VMware Esxi Server.
I have tried the Vcenter Converter tools, but I got an error as " The Version of the selected Microsoft Hyper-V Server is not supported. Select an earlier version of Microsoft Hyper-V server or another supported source type"
What should I do? Please help me to resolve it
Thanks in advance

edit by wila : Discussion moved from VMware Fusion® (for Mac) to VMware Converter Standalone
I have SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12.x virtual machines currently running from HyperV2012 R2, with UEFI Firmware Interface.
As per the VMWARE converter user guide, its not listed as supported. SLES 12 is not listed at all, and as for the UEFI in SLES 11 version itself is listed not supported in the userguide. Would that mean it would not support the offline migrations as well ?
any feedback is much appreciated.
