Invalid Configuration for device '0'

Hi all

Trying to upload a VM to ESXi 6.0 using VMware vCenter Converter Standalone version 6.2.0 but the task will not start giving the message "Invalid configuration for device '0'."

I don't know what this pertains to.  The source VM came from Workstation 15 and I thought it may have to do with compatibility level.  I tried changing the source VM level to 12 and to 11 but the same message appear.  Anyone know what the solution might be?

Thanks

I need to download vCenter 5.5.3. VMWare download center forces me to download version 6.2. Any help is appreciated.

Does VMWare converter support Windows Server 2019 as source officially?

$

I have a Windows server 2019 machine on Hyper-V, and try to convert it to vCenter (or EXSi host)

VMWare Converter always reports an error: Unable to find the system volume, reconfiguration is not possible.

Check  product release note, I found that Windows server 2019 is not in “Supported Guest Operating Systems”.

https://docs.vmware.com/en/vCenter-Converter-Standalone/6.2/rn/conv_sa_62_rel_notes.html#platf

But on the “Known Issues” -> “Windows Source”, it talks about Windows server 2019, like:

“If you convert a Windows Server 2019 machine and you include a ReFS volume that....”

https://docs.vmware.com/en/vCenter-Converter-Standalone/6.2/rn/conv_sa_62_rel_notes.html#windows-sources-known

So, I’m a little confused, does Windows server 2019 is supported officially?

Any comment or suggestion is appreciative.

Thank you for your help!

Transfer Rate issue on Vmware vCenter Converter

Hi All,

I am trying to convert a VM from AWS to our vCenter. I have several VMs that are Centos, Ubuntu, Windows 2012 R2, Windows 2008 etc. When i start convertion for Centos VMs, the speed is about 8 MB/s. But, when i try to convert a Windows VM, the speed is around 500 kb/s. The total speed between two sites is 100 Mbps. I have 1 TB Windows Machine, that's why this speed is a bit slow. Windows Machines are using 1 Gbit Network adapter.

What i did for resolving that issue;

-I have checked the pre-requisities for Windows VMs and i did but the speed is still the same.

-Disabled anti-virus program (ESET). It was deleted in one of the Windows Machines but speed was the same.

-Turned-off UAC

-Turned-off Firewall

-Disabled SSL Encryption from converter-worker.

-Increased the value in the Number of Data Connections in Converter

The speed is still slow for Windows based machines. I don't think that slow issue is related to network between two sites. Because i can see normal speeds for Centos Machines. Is there anyone who faced this kind of slow convertion issue ?

Will there be a supported version of the Standalone Converter for SLES12 ant time soon?

I'm trying to convert a physical 2 virtual of my SLES12 SP4 bare metal server.

Maybe there is a way to do this with the older version.

If so, can someone please chime in.

Thanks

RHV migration to vSphere

Hello,

in the next months we are going to migrate our RHV environment to vSphere, probably the 6.7 version. I found that Vmware converter standalone should support KVM based environments and all of our CentOS/RHEL virtual machines. We have also a few physical Rhel servers that are probably going to be migrated to vm.

Did anybody have experience with this operation? Do you have any hints or issues that we should consider before starting to move our servers?

Our Rhev-m version is 4.2.8.9

Our hypervisors version is 4.3.5

Please let me know if you need further informations

Thanks in advance

Missing "Select volumes to copy" in VMware vCenter Converter Standalone

Missing Select volumes to copy for any Linux VM in VMware vCenter Converter Standalone.

I am trying to create compact copy of VM for template using VMware vCenter Converter Standalone.

  1. For Windows VM everything is ok.
  2. For any Linux machine, in drop down  "Data to copy type", only available option is "Copy all disks and maintain layout". Option   "Select volumes to copy" is missing.

Additional information:

  1. I am using trial vCenter 6.7 with trial esxi 6.7u2 .
  2. I don.t have any snapshots.
  3. I have tried with different VM HW versions 10-14 .
  4. In addition i have tried with VMworkstatin 15 pro.

Any idea ?

The virtual disk is invalid or needs to be repaired AND vmware-vdiskmanager does NOT fix the problem

I'm running vmware-vdiskmanager -R against a VMDK file that produces "the virtual disk is invalid or needs to be repaired" errors in VCenter Converter.  vmware-vdiskmanager does NOT report anything; it just silently returns to the command prompt after a second or two and does not fix the problem.

vdisk-vdiskmanager -e reports: Disk chain is consistent.

Now what?  What to do when vmware-vdiskmanager -R does not fix the problem?

Source system was RHEL 7.6 with ~300G data. The conversion failed at 96% (after 1h 44 mins) with error:

The resulting machine was then deleted by the converter from the target vCenter... I will try the conversion next week again. What to change in the parameters?

vmware converter hung at 98% converting rh7.6 v2v

I have a Redhat 7.6 on Rhel.  I am trying to convert the machine to vmware using the 6.2.0 version of vmware converter.  I have done this repeatedly with little problems when the OS is 7.5 5 months ago.

Here are the steps that I do prior to starting the conversion...

1.  Make sure root login is enabled via ssh

2.  Make sure connection between the windows machine running the vmware converter, the vmware cluster tp be hosting the newly converted machine and the original rhel based redhat machine is good.

3.  Make sure all unnecessary processes running on the machine have been stopped.

4.  Make sure /var/tmp is unmounted

5.  Make sure no processes are using /tmp

6.  Remount /tmp as executable (mount -o remount,exec /tmp)

Start up the converter, set ip options, along with helper ip.

The converter chugs along till it gets to 98%, and the last message in Task Progess is "Creating initial ramdisk".

The task times out giving an error of

"SysCommandWrapper: Error encountered in SysCommand: SysCommand failed to wait /usr/lib/vmware-converter/chrootAndExec.sh to terminate"

I seem to have no problems with any 7.5 machine, but this happens on all the 7.6 machines that I have tried.

I have searched the error log file and google for anyone else having this error with 7.6 with no luck.

Any comments or hints of action would be helpful.  If I am posting in the wrong place, let me know the proper place to ask my question.

TIA

Dave McFerren
