I have tried to convert a physical disk with the program and every time I try it fails with the same error, FAILED: A general system error occurred: SQL_CANTOPEN:
unable to open database file
I have tried over 10 times and always get the same error. It usually failed after a few % but has failed at other times, once at 97%. I have tried with networking turned off, rebooted the machine, ran chkdsk on both the machine and external drive. the drive is under 700gb and the disk I'm trying to install the image on is 932gb free.

any suggestions? attaching error logs.

Unable to find vmware standalone converter for linux

Hi I am going around in circles with the website, and other fora, still unable to find a tar file of the vmware standalone converter

The best guide is here https://linhost.info/2009/04/vmware-converter-installation-on-ubuntu-linux/

The only problem is once I login to VMware vCenter Converter: P2V Virtual Machine Converter

I can only see downloads for windows. I am trying to convert my local ubuntu machine into a vm, which I can use as a vm on my windows machine.

I have also tried using the converter software installed on my windows machine to do this remotely, facing an error with that also - unable to query the live linux source machine

please help!

Still Unable to Query

I've posted about this once before, and I changed my sshd_config file to allow all ciphers and macs as to avoid any issues with PLINK. I am now able to at least get a dialog if I want to accept the connection (security dialog with a thumbprint), and when I hit yes, it takes a minute and then fails to query afterwards.

I'm not sure what exactly is going on now, but this is causing me such a headache trying to take an image of a machine I don't have physical access to.

I'm trying to run a P2V from a Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4 physical machine, to a vCenter 6.0 environment.

The installation gets to 97% complete, and fails with the following error;

FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'KeepOneBootEntry:

There is no matching kernel modules for kernel /tboot.gz'

Then the process deletes the newly created VM.

P2V FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: '/usr/lib/vmware-converter/copyFileSystem.sh did not finish producing output after 3600 seconds'

i try to convert a physical CentOS 5.5 to a virtual machine on a ESXi 6.0 Environment.

The operation fails every time at 30% with this error message:

FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: '/usr/lib/vmware-converter/copyFileSystem.sh did not finish producing output after 3600 seconds'

Maybe some one could have a look at the attached logfiles and point me in the right direction?

P2V from Symantec System Recovery 2013 R2 backup

I need to create a VM from a backup created with Symantec System Recovery 2013 R2.

VMware Converter Standalone does not allow anymore creating VMs from Symantec backup files, and old versions support only outdated formats.

If I create a VM and boot from the Symantec recovery disk I can restore the server from the backup but the VM does not work.

Is there any Solution I can implement?

Is there any third party product I can use?

Regards

Marius

Convert Disk While OS Not Running?

$

I'm looking to virtualize a physical disk running Vista.  My machine is a multi-boot PC with 3 drives, each containing a different OS.

Disk 1: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Disk 2: Windows Vista 32-bit

Disk 3: Windows XP Pro 32-bit

Each one of these disks has 2 partitions, a primary for the OS and a logical drive for data.  I'm just looking to virtualize the primary OS partition to a virtual disk.

Looking at the documentation, it appears that to do a virtualization, the Source OS partition needs to be up and running. Is there any way to just point the converter to that primary partition while its not running?

Also, I don't see that Windows XP is supported.  Is it possible to use this tool to virtualize that primary partition also?

Thank You

Unable to Obtain Hardware Information for the Selected Machine

For 1 physical server that we are working to convert to a VM using the standalone converter, we receive unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine.  If we try another physical system, there are no issues and we are able to proceed.  We have restarted the physical server that we are unable to obtain information from, but that has not helped.

Please see the attached logs.

GrubInstaller kernel too old

Hi all,

I'm trying to p2v a Suse 12.1 vm with lvm (I've found this machine as is and I cannot do a lot of thing on it).

Converter 6.1.1 is unable to convert due to "Unable to query the live Linux source machine", only version that starts is 6.0.0

At 99% I got the following error: FAILED: An error occurred during the conversion: 'GrubInstaller::InstallGrub: /usr/lib/vmware-converter/installGrub.sh failed with return code: 127, and message: FATAL: kernel too old Error running vmware-updateGrub.sh through chroot into /mnt/p2v-src-root /usr/lib/vmware-converter/installGrub.sh: line 147: /mnt/p2v-src-root: Is a directory '

Without grub, machine is unable to start.. i've tried all suggestion in this post ubuntu p2v - converter fails generic error but without success, even changing install-grub and update-grub script in helper machine during conversion before running grub script installation.

I've also tried to restore grub using Suse rescue console with no luck.

Using Veeam Agent for Linux should be a solution, but there's btrfs (not supported).

Any suggestion?

Thanks
