I am using the VMware-converter-en-6.2.0-8466193 installer.  I am using a script to install it silently.  I would like to learn how to tell the installer to install just the agent.  Does anyone know how to do that?

Hello,

I am trying to convert a Hyper-V VM via the Vmware converter. The VM is shutdown.

Through the conversion wizard i use the local administrator account on the hyper-V node, and it lists all the VM's.

I select the turned off VM and it reports to collect vm information, when i get an error that indicates that it is unable to open the vhd file. The administrator account has full rights to the file of couse.

Hi, I'm getting the following error when trying to do a p2v conversion. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

P2V Failing in last few %

I have been attempting to P2V a server into our vSphere 5.5 environment and keep running into an issue at the very last minute.. It clones all of the volumes and then starts its final snapshot, and fails with the following messages.

Converter Error:

"An error occurred while taking a snapshot: The parent virtual disk has been modified since the child was created. The content ID of the parent virtual disk does not match the corresponding parent content ID in the child."

vSphere Error:

CID_MISMATCH

Once it fails, it ends the P2V job and then deletes the VM.

This is part of a big migration project to virtualize all of our remaining physical server. We have successfully P2V'd the first few and have a few more to do.

Blue screen 0x0000007B VM boot error with 64-bit Windows 2003

Blue screen 0x0000007B boot error with 64-bit Windows 2003 virtual machine converted from physical machine.

I am running VMWare Converter Starter Edition version 3.0.0 build-39557 installed on a Dell PowerEdge 2950 (a couple of months old) running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise x64 R2 (version 5.2.3790, SP1 with all the latest updates). The server has SCSI RAID drives (2 separate arrays for a physical C: and D: drive).

The physical machine is a new clean installation of 64-bit Windows Server 2003 with no other software installed except for VMWare Server and Converter.

I am attempting to create a virtual machine from this machine to run in VMWare Server (version 1.0.1 build-29996) on the same physical machine. The conversion appears to succeed, but when I attempt to start the new virtual machine, it begins to boot, displays the Windows 2003 startup screen briefly, and then fails with a blue screen with the following error:

STOP: 0x0000007B (0xFFFFFADFD520F3C0, 0xFFFFFFFFC0000034, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)

I understand the "0x0000007B" means that it can't access the boot device for some reason. I have searched these forums and the knowledge base, but haven't found a solution to this problem.

I have been able to successfully convert and boot a 32-bit Windows Server 2003 physical machine as a virtual machine running in this same VMWare Server. I don't have any other 64-bit machines to test this with.

I am logged in directly to the console of the physical machine with the administrator account. I enabled virtualization in the BIOS. I have tried various combinations when building the virtual machine (customizing or not, fixed or variable disk sizes, importing both C: and D: drives or importing only the C: drive, etc). I have the SYSPREP files from the x64 installation disks locally on the server, and I have run SETUPMGR in this folder to create a SYSPREP.INF file. All of these various attempts have failed with the same boot error.

Is it possible to build a 64-bit virtual machine using VMWare Converter Starter Edition? Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

P2V for efi-based linux (debian stretch)

Hi,

I have a minipc based debian stretch linux server that I want to migrate to my vmware esxi hypervisor 6.7u2. For that purpose, I have tried the converter, but it reports "The destination does not support EFI firmware". I tried to search for solutions, but the solutions I have found range from "it should work with virtual machines >11" to disabling the EVC mode in the cluster which as far as I can see does not even exist on the free esxi hypervisor. After some frustration, I have tried to dd the harddisk to an usb stick and tried to convert the raw image to vmdk with qemu. This didn't boot either.

I'm really glad for any suggestions how to move this physical machine to the esxi server.

Thanks!

Unable to find the system volume, reconfigurationis not possible - any fix?

Hi all,

I've some servers moved from Microsoft Azure to onpremise Hyper-V. They all run as Gen1 (BIOS mode)

We're moving to VMware and is using VMware Converter to convert them to VMware. For all none previous Azure servers, VMware Converter works great! both BIOS (Gen1) / EFI mode (Gen2)

With all servers which previous was on Azure they all fail with "Unable to find the system volume, reconfigurationis not possible". What i've seen is that I can start the servers fine in VMware after I see this error but cannot use the sync. feature in VMware. The sync. feature is needed to be sure I have all changes on the "new" servers in VMware.

I've idenitifed the problem. On all failed servers i've the BCD boot image at c:\Boot. I managed to move the BCD c:\boot to another drive on a test machine but can't remember how I did it

After the C:\boot moved to another drive, the server still boots fine and VMware Converter was happy.

Can someone help me how to use the utils: bcdedit, bootrec, bootsect, diskpart to move from C:\ to another drive (remember for BIOS / MBR mode!)

Hope to hear from someone ASAP

VMWare converter to migrate CentOS4 and CentOS5 to ESXI 6.5

Hello Folks,

I'm in the process of kicking off a mass migration of xen domu CentOS4 and 5 VMs in to VMware.

I had assumed i would be able to use the converter to do it however I've only just realised that pre CentOS 6 doesn't seem to be supported on any version of the converter?

Am I right in thinking it simply hasn't been tested/certified by VMWare?

I'd be surprised if the converter can handle as low as RHEL3 but cannot handle the CentOS equivalent.

Hello.

I have to convert "Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES release 4" to vmware, then I got private key using command ssh-keygen-t rsa via putty. Also I convertet to .pem file

Then I tried to convert it with that pem key with vCenter Converter standalone but it gives error with:

I am new to linux. Please help me guys

The physical computer which I am trying to convert to a VM:

CentOS 6.6 running FreePBX 10.66-22

Destination ESXi host running: ESXi 5.5.0 6480324.

The middle man computer which running: VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 6.0.0

All of the 3 computers are on the same network without any firewall restriction.

From the vCenter server managing the ESXi host I can see the VM was created, powered on and booted to the VMware converter helper. However, it stuck at the screen. And it then fail!

From the middle man computer I see the error "A general system error occurred: Network error. Host 1x.2x.x.201 key can't be retrieved."

I already tried the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 6.2.0. But it too ran into the same issue.

The below article advised to use the VMware vCenter Converter Standalone 5.1.0. However, this version is no longer available for download.

VMware Knowledge Base

The more interesting thing is just about 6-7 months ago I was able to convert the same machine onto the same server over the same network!

Could someone please help?

How to P2V multiple 2003 Servers to 6.5

$

We have a Client with 10+ 2003 physical Servers that we need to convert to VMs in ESXi 6.5.

I've done some searching, and found that Server 2003 is no longer supported, and that Converter 6.0 was the last to support it.

What is the best way to P2V the 2003 Servers and get them into 6.5?

Do we use Converter 6.0 to P2V to ESXi 6.0 and then migrate to 6.5?  Or will Converter 6.0 work directly with ESXi 6.5?

What Hardware version should we choose?

Any other tips for P2V on 2003?

Thanks!

Hi there!

I'm trying to downgrade VMWare hardware of existing local VMWare machine by using VMWare vCenter Converter Sandalone 6.2.0.1. The problem is when I select the vmx file in the VMWare vCenter Converter Sandalone 6.2.0.1 I got the error "Unable to obtain hardware information for the selected machine" though I'm using Administrative mode for this.

Could you tell me how to fix it please?

Thank you!
